Our Story

We came together believing that mobile technology could play a bigger role in building people skills for work.

We wanted to be for everyone. We wanted to democratise access to quality people skills support whether you’re an experienced leader or a new starter in your first job.

The world of working is full of edtech, hrtech, coaching, counselling and training. It’s confusing and overwhelming. PeopleSpot is not going to contribute to this confusion. Instead we offer something that is democratised and easy. For ANY person who works.

PeopleSpot is the secret weapon in your WORKPLACE SURVIVAL KIT.

A vital piece of tech that prevents mental pain caused by confusion, stress and conflict. Laser focused on improving working with other people. From situation to solution in less than 48 hours.

Meet the Team

  • Colin Beattie - Founder & CEO

People Spot was simultaneously the fastest and slowest good idea that Colin ever had.

The concept of a coaching companion for every staff member matured gracefully (like a fine Shiraz) over 20 years of coaching leaders in some of Australia’s highest profile digital organisations, plus others adapting rapidly to that world of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity.

You can’t be everywhere, and not everyone can afford professional coaching - frustrating! The People Spot eventually exploded in a Eureka moment in 2020 that the essence and process of effective workplace coaching could be bottled in a revolutionary app that every staff member had access to.

Having dealt with the impact on people, organisations, cultures, and relationships from employees avoiding those ‘people moments’, Colin is humbled and thrilled to be part of this.

  • Nerissa Beattie - Founder, Psychology & Content

A critical role in building The People Spot was to ensure that the coaching advice is validated by professionals.

Qualified in organisational and counselling psychology and registered with AHPRA and the APS, Nerissa has practised for over 20 years in corporate Australia, mental health settings and education. She’s held senior roles in high-performing HR teams, worked in consulting and had the privilege of supporting individuals experiencing a range of social, emotional and mental health issues. Whatever the setting, Nerissa is passionate about helping individuals live their best lives.

As we create content that is designed to be self-guided, rapid and capable of making a material difference to employee’s lives - Nerissa gets the final word on what is in and out of The People Spot app.

  • Dave Kennedy - Founder, Product & Design

A scholar of both arts and science in his early years, it was the arts that won that battle - transforming Dave ‘the web developer’ into Dave ‘the UX and Design guy’.

Dave is globally renowned for his design work, as a respected member of the global Apple design alumni, and as ‘dangerous dave’ within the game and app design house Dangerous Pixels.

His return to Australia in 2020 was a gigantic win for the Australian digital industry, but most of all the People Spot. You can see his skill and his impact on our company every single time you open the People Spot app.

  • Nat Feehan - Marketing & Operations

Nat’s stellar career trajectory, and first class role-modeling as a balanced life champion, are well-known to listeners of the Leadership of Fools podcast. Two big career arcs as an executive in digital natives REA Group and MYOB tell you all you need to know about her resilience and ability to inspire.

Nat brings her uncanny ability to rapidly distill the essence of an idea, brand or story into action that delivers for customers to The People Spot.

Nat’s also recently started as an exec in the digital side of the Construction industry with EstimateOne.

  • Nigel Dalton - Technology Architecture

Yep, that guy who said he would never do another startup.

Also a Leadership of Fools podcast alumni (the music episode), Nigel comfortably steps between the worlds of technosocial transformations (with ThoughtWorks); Lean and Agile business (with Lean Enterprise Australia); and as a friend and mentor to many on their own careers in digital.

Like the other business people on the team, Nigel is committed to helping create a world of work where professional coaching is democratised for the many, not a chosen few.

  • Kate Temby - Investments & Governance

Kate’s career in business has been multi-dimensional, multi-national, and luckily for us, she is a multi-talented industry leader.

Kate has experienced diverse cultures, people and challenges having worked with Goldman Sachs in New York and Melbourne for many years.  She is passionate about building thriving businesses.

Kate is a recognised leader in the fields of Impact and Ethical investing, a regular guest on Colin’s Leadership of Fools podcast, and has shown the world her tenacity and resilience when appearing on Survivor, the TV series, in 2017.

  • Amy Kirkwood - Customer & Communications

Amy is a passionate and creative senior leader with experience across a range of industries. With a unique skill mix of Corporate Affairs and Human Resources, she provides a flexible and innovative approach to leading businesses through change.

For close to 20 years, Amy has driven the external perception and internal experience for some of Australia’s best known brands. She has led strategy and managed teams across a range of corporate functions including People & Culture; Corporate Communications; Employee Communication; Brand and Community Partnerships.

Recently Amy has furthered her studies in psychology and company directorships and serves as a non-Executive Director for not-for-profit health organisation HEAL.

  • Kayt Edwards - Technology & Delivery

Kayt was an early explorer of technology, beginning in 1974 when she programmed a robot in AI. Her adventurous spirit led her through a variety of fields, from tech start-ups to publishing to government. Kayt’s ability to make tech talk accessible and her use of both rigorous method and outside-the-box thinking has helped her to shine in her work with brands like Lonely Planet, the AFL and realestate.com.au

Building on her delivery skills, Kayt moved into team and leadership coaching, and found that working to make the workplace experience positive and enriching was her sweet spot.

Recently Kayt opened a new chapter by relocating to Brataualung Country (South Gippsland) where she is exploring new adventures, with her Golden Retriever, Peggy Sue.

Our strategic partnership with Karl Treacher and The Culture Institute Australia is vital in ensuring the app meets moments and builds cultures.

In partnership we ‘unlock the new world of work.’
